The trick to adding glamour to a bathroom space is simple: pair a modern wall mirror that suits the style of your home with a set of contemporary sconces flanking the mirror and you’ll achieve a fresh and fabulous look. Great bath lighting makes all the difference.
When it comes to sconces, it is not just the light that makes a difference, but also the shadows. So, make sure that the direction of the light and its pattern are appropriate for your home. Some sconces offer interesting shapes and dramatic shadows that make a big impact on the overall appearance of the room.
While there are no hard-and-fast rules for placing sconces on a dining room wall, some strategies create a more welcoming decor than others. As in the living room, it is important to place lighting fixtures as they will be viewed by seated guests. Stand up to decide on placement as part of your overall decor, then sit down to check that you do not have to address glare issues.
One of my favorite interior design styles is industrial, and wall sconce light fixtures are a décor feature that is always intriguing—so I thought, why not combine the two and show you how to bring industrial wall sconces into any room of the house? Rest assured, you don’t have to use industrial style throughout the room if it’s not your thing. These pieces mix well with any interior décor.
You need that soft ambiance for a late night reading sessions. Or to quickly grab something off the nightstand. Or maybe even to see which kid is standing at your bedside in the middle of the night. Plus having the lighting on the wall frees up precious space on the night stand.
In the absence of specific features to be highlighted, like a framed picture, a mirror or an archway, place sconces eight-to-10 feet apart, creating a continuous band of soft, diffused light along a wall or around the room. Place sconces closer together, as needed, above a fireplace or on both sides of a mirror. Place them farther apart if they are to function singly. You might center a single sconce over a buffet on one wall and place two in the corners of the opposite wall, 15 feet or more apart. Especially for curved- or half-round-shaded sconces, do the glare test from a variety of directions.
Consider a replacement such as a rustic wood mirror to add texture and cool chrome sconces for contrast. Rustic wood appears on the vanity and in the mirror frames while contemporary chrome sconces and faucets add elegance. A more traditional vanity with bun feet is enhanced by hanging a shapely scalloped mirror above it and adding two shiny silver sconces in a transitional style.
